WORDPLAY:
BRINGING MUSIC AND READING TOGETHER
Project Focus: As an avid reader and music lover, I want to create a product or app that allows you to enter the book you are reading, and it gives you a playlist to match the plot. Additionally, it should help users pick their next book by matching book recommendations to playlists.
My Role: UX and Interaction Design
Getting Started: After reviewing the ask and considering the context of use, I felt that the best medium for this product would be a mobile app given their portability. Once this had been decided, I began identifying key features and other project requirements. Since this app is simply curating/matching playlists by book and making book recommendations, I wanted to keep those aspects of the app in the forefront. As I began to develop the skeleton of this product's roadmap, the core requirements revolved around browsing for books, searching for books/playlist recommendation and creating a central queue to store reading lists.
Wireframes
As I began designing the wireframes, I knew that I wanted to keep it simple to ensure that app users would not be so distracted by the app that it took them away from the book they are reading. I also felt that it was important to make navigating the app easy and intuitive, so I decided to repeat certain UI elements and layout styles.
High Fidelity Designs
Simplicity was also considered when I began designing the interactive elements of the app. Borrowing from the launch page, I used a soft green color to highlight interactive affordances in the app, from the browse and queue buttons, to the search controls, scrolling and the play and pause functions. Although they are used sparingly, this subtle use of this color helps users understand how to navigate the app.
